I like to post stuff in a cartoon style, mainly due to its simplicity. Most of my work is done in Photoshop and Illustrator with a Wacom tablet, but I also do a lot of sketching on paper.

If you favorite any of my stuff, don't be offended if I don't leave a "thank you" comment on your profile. I'm just so busy and I get so many favorites now that leaving "thank you" comments to all of them will eat into my day.....and I already spend a lot of time on this site.

This is my first critique, so I'll try to make it a good one. Firstly, you've inspired me to try photopainting. I like the effect of c...

Hi everyone. I'm a BA in animation studying postgraduate in digital design.

Even though I studied animation, I'm just striving to improve my drawing skills, and I'm more interested in comic making and visual storytelling, simply because you can do it independently and it's a lot faster getting your ideas down.

I'll post whatever tutorials, advice and resources I think will help other deviants improve in the art field as much as I have over the past 3 years.

Playing Epic Mickey

Mon May 21, 2012, 1:21 AM
Long story short, I got a second hand wii thanks to my bro, who helped me buy it, and then I went out and bought Epic Mickey second hand because Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 were way too expensive (even preowned, I heard publishers were trying to stop second hand game sales). I also had to buy a second hand nunchuk controller because the wii didn't come with one.

So I've played through Epic Mickey a little bit, I guess preparing for its sequel. After a while I realized that it's better to place the wii motion sensor bar at the bottom of the TV screen than the top, because I was practically craning my arm up to get sloppy motion control accuracy.

I don't know if I've gotten a bad nunchuk controller or if it's the game, but when you press the C button on the nunchuk controller, the camera is supposed to point at Mickey's back, so you see everything in front of Mickey. A lot of the times when I press the C button nothing happens (and I wind up seeing where I've been instead of where I'm going). Sometimes this camera control works, and sometimes it doesn't. Hopefully there's nothing wrong with my controller.

Also I had no idea this game had mechanics where you can make choices which will lead to different consequences and events in the game. I'm not used to that, and I screwed up one of the quests. (Personally I thought it would make more sense if you were playing this game as modern day Mickey, just to show how much time has passed in the story...Or even better, if modern Mickey was unlockable)

Okay. These brushes work best with Photoshop paths, which can be a little tricky but are extremely useful once you master them.

To get the brushes to follow the paths you make you need to stroke the path with that brush. You do this by selecting the speedline brush you want to use, then going into the paths panel (which is part of the layers panel for my version of Photoshop, but if you can't see it, go to Window > Paths).

The path you made should be visible there and named "work path". Select it in the paths panel. There are a couple of ways to stroke a path in Photoshop, but the easiest to explain is to right click the selected path in the paths panel and choose "stroke path" from the menu that appears. A window will appear asking what tool you want to use and whether you want to simulate pen pressure (to create the look of a line drawn with a tablet). Choose brush and leave simulate pressure unchecked and click OK.

It should work if you try that.
